dir entry ng card
on May 26, 2009 at 3:47:24 pm

When i put the card in the camera it gives me the alert: dir entry ng card. The clips have an X over then, and i can't do anything with the footage, not even watch it on the camera. The computer says it can not read the card, and ask to initialize it. Is there a solution to this problem?

Do NOT initialize. That will erase the card. In fact, write protect the card. Have you been able to mount P2 cards on your computer before this? Did you ever see clips from this card?

Hi John.
Yes, i have been able to mount disks before, and after, with other cards. And yes, the disk mounted when i first tried, and i could copy almost all of it to the HD, then it gave me a message of error, and when i tried again i was not able to do it, and it began giving me that message that the disk was not readable by the computer. I did not see the clips, but i talked to the cameraman and he said he watched it after recording.

I think most P2 cameras have a repair function for cards. Try putting the card back in the camera and see if it can repair the card. Some Imagine Products programs like P2 Log have a Repair MXF function that might work in this situation. Here's a link. http://www.imagineproducts.com/P2log.htm

Hi john

Yes, i tried to repair the clips in the camera, but it did not work. I did download the demo version of p2 log pro, but i can't mount the card, so i can't repair the mxf files. I tried to repair the mxf fies from the contents i could copy the first time, but they are incomplete files, they do repair, but the clip has digital noise, several little colored dots in it.

thanks so far

I'm sorry, but I've exhausted my meager store of ideas. Maybe a more educated COW can chime in here.

Calibrated Software has a product http://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MXFImport_Mac.asp as does MXF4Mac http://mxf4mac.com/ and Raylight for Mac http://dvfilmstore.com/raylight-for-mac.html Maybe one of those can read the mxf files you have saved to your hard drive.

One last thought re repair of the card. It's possible that Disk Warrior can "see" the card even though it doesn't mount. P2 cards are RAID drives so maybe DW can repair the card's directory. Their support is very good. Maybe they'll have some ideas. http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html

Hi

I have the exact same problem.
Were you able to fix this?

Any help would be much appreciated, the footage is vital and we are unable to reshoot

Thank you
Jessica
