P2 Import Problems
on May 21, 2009 at 9:52:38 am

Recently I've had a new problem with importing P2 media from an HVX200 to FCP 6.05 on a 8core macpro in leopard.

In the Log and Transfer window it looks like all is working fine, until the very end when I get the dreaded exclamation mark and no media. On another computer (g5, fcp5 on 10.4), the same media from same camera transferred fine.

Any others have this problem, and how did you work around or fix it?
Thanks
CR

How is your scratch drive formatted?

Do you have fxfactory or Perian installed?

Have you unchecked the remove duplicate frames option in the L&T prefs?

To expand on that...

#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.

Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."

Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.

What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.

ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.

ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

ALSO make sure that the folders that contain the CONTENTS folder doesn't have any odd characters like /!@#$%^&*()?.

The drives are formatted the same way the drives on the G5 are, and the remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames is unchecked, and none of the software.
Still no luck, any ideas appreciated.

[Craig Richard] "The drives are formatted the same way the drives on the G5 are"

And what is that? Open up the disk utility, click on the name of your external drive and look at the bottom left hand corner. What does it say for 'Format'?

Craig,

I didn't know that I can use P2 with G5 and 10.4.
What utility / driver do I need for that?

I nearly bought a second hand MacBook Pro just because of P2 cards.
