Dual Adapter question
on Apr 1, 2009 at 10:35:26 pm

I just purchased a dual adapter for dumping p2 footage but I can't figure out how to get this thing to mount. Here are my specs:

macbook pro
2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
mac OS X 10.5.6

I know I don't need a driver for the dual adapter but they told me I still need to download one for my p2 cards. I have a 32 and 16 gb p2 cards. Where do I get these drivers? Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply Jeremy.

These drivers are confusing. I went to the page where the drivers are and downloaded something I thought was a driver for mac. When I went to the upzip folder and double clicked on the file to go through the setup wizard it said "setup failed".

what is going on?

From this Page:

https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/mac_...

Download and install P2PCCard Install.pkg.

It's that easy.

Well thats what I've been trying to do. It keeps telling me "Install Failed". I'm not sure why it would do that.

OK. That should be fine. Anything else connected to your machine? I just download and installed it, and it's working fine here (just got an email that drivers had been updated anyway).

When you download and unzip the folder, you get a folder that's marked mac_P2driver_v2?

I do not have anything plugged into my machine.

Yes, I get the folder called "mac_P2driver_v2"

Curious.

Are you logged in as administrator?

If so, just for yucks, try creating a new user that has admin privileges on your computer and see if it installs.

Good thought. I am logged in as the admin but I'll give it a try.

Did you try redownloading the drivers?

I am not sure why it's not working.

I've tried to download them several times. When I try to go through the install process this is what it says,

"Install Failed! The following install step failed: run preflight script for P2(japanese letters). contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

?

Try repairing permissions on your boot drive.

Well, I don't know for sure. but this seems to be pointing to some sort of system error.

How aggressive are you willing to get? I have some suggestions, but we will be playing with fire and I don't want to wipe your system out to unusable.

Do you have a clone of your hard drive?

I have that computer and my Duel does not work correctly with it. The P2 drivers installed fine. I can use P2CMS to view the contents of P2 cards and folders. But ingest results in kernel panic. Same happens with Shotput P2. It's the old familiar "Duel Adapter doesn't work with some Macbook Pros" thing.

I have to use "Archive to Folder" from FCP Log and Transfer or just a straight finder copy to transfer files to hard drive. So far, that has been reliable, but it's not the same a a copy and verify process.

Installed newest P2 driver from Panasonic--which came out after the E-Series cards. Voila! Shotput and Duel Adaptor work again. Praise be.

Hello Everyone,

I'm in Rwanda shooting a documentary with a Sony EX1 and a Panasonic HVX200. I've worked with both cameras quite a bit, but the laptop is a new purchase. I'm using the Duel Adaptor Card Reader and having serious problems. The first two cards we imported were a little temperamental, but worked OK. Unfortunately, now we are unable to get the Duel Adaptor to recognize the cards at all. For now we are using the camera to import the cards into the computer, but this is not a very realistic solution given our subject matter. We are shooting reconciliation meetings between perpetrators and victims of the '94 genocide. The sessions go for hours on end, and losing a camera to import cards is really not an option.

I've combed the forums, but have had no luck yet. Here are a few of the things we have tried.

1. Removed 2 Gigs of Ram (to avoid the 4 Gig RAM problem that Barry Green has posted about).
2. Uninstalled SxS drivers
3. Installed the latest E series P2 driver
4. I have two Duel Adaptors so I know the problem is not with the adaptor itself.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thank you,

Scott

My computer setup is a 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 Gigs of RAM. Mac OS 10.5.7 and FCP 6.0.6

I should clarify that we are currently unable to get the computer to recognize the duel adaptor either.

I had the same problem:
"Install Failed! The following install step failed: run preflight script for P2(japanese letters). contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

After waisting half a day looking for workarounds I finally found the answer to the problem:

I hand installed the "P2PCCard.kext" Extension file I have found in the corrupt installer package with the help of this webpage:
http://grafikdesign.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/how-do-i-install-a-kext-file/

This did the job!

That duel adapter really gave me a lot of headaches recently, last week I had to learn the hard way that it is not supported in snow leopard - just after running the upgrade from 10.5! So I had to reinstall everything (no time machine, stuiped me....)
