Transferring captured P2 files from pc laptop to Mac desktop
on Mar 10, 2009 at 3:11:02 pm

The title says it all really, I'm wondering if I'll be able to download P2 files onto an external drive via my PC laptop and then when I get back to the studio, offload those files from the hard drive into Final Cut?

I have had issues with swapping external drives between Mac and Pc before, so if the answer to the above question is yes; then would someone know of a good external that doesn't mind being swapped between Mac and Pc?

Sorry that this post is very similar to another of mine, but it is different and therefore I reposted.

Many thanks.

In theory not a problem. The trick is picking a file format both computers can read if you want to transfer over hard drive. I'd go NTFS on the PC and then get the Paragon translator for OS X:

Or you would simply connect the computers together via Ethernet and copy across the network.

interesting, thanks. Just wondering though, which solution you'd go for? Is it something you've had to do in the past?

We typically carry a Powerbook or a PCD20 with us and transfer directly to a Mac for HVX200. However we also shoot with a Phantom HD and that uses transfer software for PC only. So we run Windows in Bootcamp on a MBP and transfer to NTFS drives.

Then we load onto a Mac with Paragon. It's a great plugin and I only wish it would be directly incorporated into OS X- there's really no reason for Mac to not be able to read/write NTFS.
