How necessary is it to keep the CONTENT folder after the footage has been ingested into FCP and converted to Quicktimes?

I'll ask you one question. Would you throw away your raw tapes? I think you would answer "no." Tossing your mxf files/contents is essentially the same thing as tossing your tapes.

Do a search and look at old posts. This seems to come up every few weeks. You should NEVER dump the original files. After they are ingested into FCP as quicktime files they can only be read by FCP. What if you wanted to use the footage for something else? Jim's question of whether you would toss the master tapes is valid. Why would you?

[Stephen Franciosa] "Well just figured the Quicktimes are the same thing?"

That would a big fat negatory. But you can find out all about MXF vs. .MOV by slinking through the forum a bit. Or read this:

the other thing that should be mentioned is that the original files (mxf) and the QT import should not be kept on the same drive.

Is this simply because you're trying to safe gaurd against data loss or because having the P2 volumes and the QT clips on the same drive is somehow dangerous to the clips?

thanks
