P2 card reader For G4 Mac

Hi Guys

I Fitted the Amtron P2 card reader to my Mac G4 Mirror door -
http://www.amtron.com/reader/p2card_...product_option

(I removed the SIIG PCI to PCMCIA rear entry card, it was breaking my fingers to use, But Worked fine)

Then installed the supplied PCI card and cables (2) and mounted the Reader in the Top optical space,
removed the top flip down door. I used two after market mount brackets to fill space to optical mounts , with the face recessed enough that the P2 card won't get caught accidently by anything thing.

Booted mac up, inserted card and about 2 secs later the Pana "No Name" came up on the desktop. No software ect needed, the G4 Mac recognised the reader.

It reads all my P2 cards (8gig & 32gig). No problems ingesting into FCP 5.1,
Ingest time example (DVCPro 50 file) a 2min10sec clip took 1min & 2secs to import.

All good , easy, fast and Budget Price $135 AUS.
Reader has an activity Light and Eject Button. Card must be inserted "Black label" Up.
Card shows up in System profiler as TXN.PCIXXXX.OO Type cardbus.
Pic attached on my web site-
http://www.mrsite.co.uk/usersitesv7/olinevideo.com.au/wwwroot/page9.htm

Mac OS is 10.4.8.
Now I'm going to Get the G5 MacPro reader working, i'll post when that's operational. "Nothings impossible, Just difficult".
Cheers

Cool, BTW your link does not work.

I did go to the site and looked at some of their stuff I wonder if using the card below and the duel Adapter would work for the newer systems with PCIe slots.

Hi Michael,
Link is-
http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcdtp110cs.htm
There is no budget option to get PCMCIA into the G5 as yet, BUT, i'm working on a work around, There are some products i've ordered that in combination would be compatabile, i'll post back as soon as I have a result.
My aim is to get a card reader that will hook into the G5 and be front mounted or have cableing so the slot is easily accessible for use.
Cheers

I was wondering it
http://www.amtron.com/reader/pcie101.htm
and
http://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0001

would give you a working solution. The duel would be a little better than it only being a rear mount, although the cable on the duel is so short it makes working with it a bit hard.

Hi Michael,
Couple of problems I believe, the Duel adapter I've heard is problematic, and it's very short cable, and it is not hot swap, and worst aspect is that it would come out the rear of the tower, thats a last resort, and looks very un-professional in front of clients.

Up date,

Now i'm close , BUT, the Mac OS is the problem (10.5.2), so,
I have a SIIG PCMCIA/PCI card mounted in a PCIe to PCI expansion case into the Intel G5 , the case is recognized by 10.5.2 leopard. The expansion case is seen and works OK. But system profiler says no driver for the SIIG card is installed.
so as a test, I loaded boot camp (XP Pro SP3 ) and the SIIG card are recognized by XP and works OK with P2 cards, But, Booting back to Mac OS 10.5.2 (so to be able to use my FCS apps), Nothing works in the expansion case except for the Firewire 800 card. This has shades of Vista to me.

Hi Michael,

a very late update...

A friend just tried the Rear PCIe to Expresscard then plugged the Duel adapter into it, Did not work in his Macpro.
