 | Flash CS5 Suddenly SLOW

Not sure what happened, but my licensed copy of Flash CS5 is suddenly *quicksand*... every function, from timeline scrubbing to playback to ... well ... everything. Slow, slow and SLOWER. Every click on the stage or the library takes several seconds to perform operation, and nothing I can do seems to solve it. I even opened a new, blank ActionScript 2.0 document to test, and it's that slow with nothing in the hopper at all.
Any thoughts or solutions GREATLY appreciated.

Disable antivirus? Check disk usage? I'm on Windows 10 and the recent update they've been sending is pegging our disks to 100% utilization until it's installed. Computer basically is frozen.

Thanks, Sam. I should have mentioned (of course) that I'm running Mac OS 10.11.5 (El Crapitan).
