Flash does NOT display caps and numbers returned from PHP
on Jun 15, 2011 at 4:19:48 pm

I created a simple Flash program to query my mysql database on localhost via a php page and return passwords and user names.

The php is returning the values, but my flash text output drops all numbers,caps, and a variety of lowercase characters.
i.e. password f561aaf6ef0bf14d4208bb46a4ccb3ad
is output as faafefbfdbbaccbad
Driving me nuts as all the data is apparently being sent, but not displayed.

Please help...

AS3 code (the broke part)
variables.myRequest = "getData";
// Send the data to the php file
varLoader.load(varSend);

// When the data comes back from PHP we display it here
function completeHandler(event:Event):void{

var idVar2 = event.target.data.id_var;
var idVar = event.target.data.toFlash;

//trace proved some data returned
trace(idVar);
trace(idVar2);
//text box outputs only lowercase characters
result1_txt.text = idVar;
result2_txt.text = idVar2;

PHP (final part of script):

include_once "connect_mysql.php";
mysql_select_db("mytestDB");

$sql = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM members WHERE id='$id'");
while($row = mysql_fetch_array($sql)){

$firstname=$row["firstname"];
$lastname=$row["lastname"];
$uname=$row["username"];
$password=$row["password"];

}

// Print two vars back to flash, you can also use "echo" in place of print
print "dummyVar=blank"; //had to do this to prevent linked pairs error
print "&id_var=$password";
print "&toFlash=$uname";

}

?>

The textfield you are using to display the returned values is either not set to embed characters (http://screencast.com/t/KOqnRDn6X) or the font you are using does not support these characters.

Try embedding the characters, or, if you already have, try a different font.

Kind regards,
Pieter

General notice: from now on, I would like to ask everyone to put [AS2] or [AS3] (corresponding to the version of actionscript you are using on your project) in front of their post titles when the question is actionscript related! Please help us help you faster. Thank you.
