can't make movie clip in timeline stop
on Feb 10, 2011 at 5:35:01 am

Hi guys,

I'm trying to stop a movie clip, and it's just not working. I've checked a bunch of manuals, and I still can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The scene starts like this: http://kidcandrive.com/Scene7.swf

When the characters stop, the walls are supposed to stop. So....

cavey.stop();

where cavey is the name of the instance of the movie clip that is the moving walls. Why on earth is it not working? I've used the same command in a different context and it works fine.

Sometimes I get this error:

1120: Access of undefined property cavey.

But cavey is the name of the instance!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Check that you haven't by mistake, set the original MovieClip to be a Button type element in the properties panel (just below the instance name field). Buttons can (should / must) also have instance names, but they do not support the stop(); command.
This has happend to me more times than I'd like to mention * 10.

Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.
