Interactive Panorama room
on Oct 28, 2010 at 1:43:39 am

Hi guys.

So I work for a production company. We have a showroom that we put our sound desks and video equipment in to use and show to people. I want to make a 360 degree panorama of the room which also gives people the ability to click on a piece of equipment which will bring up come info and another image of it. when they mouse over an item, i want it to either go bright or have everything else greyscale so it stands out and maybe have the name of it fade in and fade out when you take the mouse off it.

Is this all possible in flash?
I have CS5 production premium available to me and i am decent with after effects. i am not good on flash though. can someone help me out please?

So your company is paying for this?

Break it into stages: what visual elements are you going to need?

Are you going to do this with a QTVR approach, stitching together a single mov from multiple images http://www.panoramas.dk/panorama/ or maybe using a special lens http://www.0-360.com/ ..?

When you have your master image, how are you going to break it down so that you can lay in extra elements in colour and greyscale ...?

Then how are you going to programme it in Flash (or other software)

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply.
The company has a DSLR, Nikon something. It will do nicely. The room is only about 5mx5m so i will have to take 15-20 shots and put them into Photoshop to create the panorama
I am actually going to change the selection part. I will make a button in flash, just a simple but cool design with the company colours. When you click on it, the info will come up on the item the button is above or next to. A lot easier than the grey scale thing although it would have been cool.
I have Flash CS5 and i know what i want to do. But i have no experience with flash. I have only made video clips using after effects/premier in the past, no interactive programming.

Surely you can do everything i want to do in flash. I just need to work out how to make the panorama image into being able to turn around in the room using the cursor. also how to get the windows with the extra image and text about the product appear when you click on the blue button.
Again, i don't know much about flash and how it works. Ill check out some tutorials and see what i can find.

first stage is getting the image which i will do next week; Setting up the room this week.
If it doesn't work and its too hard, ill just use the panorama image and put buttons on it without being able to look around the room.

All sounds good. Flash will do what you need I think.

You know that you can adjust saturation with actionscript - so you could fade your panorama / big timeline of images to black and white when you wanted ... http://www.flashwonderland.com/color-matrix-filter/saturation.html ... all you'd need would be a way to keep the bits you want in color .. not too tricky if you copy and paste them into their own objects, on their own layers, all inside a bigger movie clip with the room panorama as a background layer ..

Good luck with it.
