Embedding Flash in html when more than one swf is linked
on Jul 20, 2010 at 9:40:43 pm

Hi there...

Could someone bear to look at this?

Just working on organizing website.

Thot to put all the flash files in one folder (with subfolders for the different movies (.swf))

When embedding with Dreamweaver, just one .swf file, with no children, the one .swf goes in nicely to the .html page. and previews in the browser just fine.

When embedding a parent .swf, it does show up nicely in browser preview also, BUT, when one pushes one of the buttons in that view, then the buttons are not working. Meaning, in the parent, the children are not responding to the call when different buttons are pushed. Does this make sence?

When the html file is in the same folder as the parent .swf and all the children, then it does work.

Is this always the case? The links in the code do refer to the correct file of the parent .swf.

What do you all think?

Thanks so much,

i'm a little bit confused, but to restate it clearly, this would be the sequence:

1) if you have a 'parent' swf that calls in other externally loaded SWFs, then

2) whatever the coding pathway inside the 'partent' swf to the external SWFs - this realtionship MUST be maintained on your server.

i assume your 'buttons' are buttons inside the parent swf that call to load the exteranl swfs? and not html buttons trying to call to the swf ...

as long as your flash elements are self contained- that is - that your parent swf works, and calls on all your other external swfs correctly, then as long as all the files are placed on your server correctly , in the same relationships (file directory etc) that they are locally, then they will work.

the only file you need Dreamweaver to be aware of is the parent swf - just maintain the same paths to all the files and you should be OK
