How to save Flash video files in subfolders
on Jul 1, 2010 at 3:00:55 am

Is there a way to put all Flash-related video files (the .flv and the skin) to a subfolder? I often make sites with a lot of Flash videos and I'd like to save all of that stuff away from the main site files.

I figured out how to do it with just regular Flash animations, but not with video. I got close to being able to do it with the .flv, but not the skin. All my experiments failed. And Flash doesn't give you the opportunity to tell it where to save the skin.

the vid path is relative to where the swf is located, which is a little weird since loading other content like an image or XML is relative to the page the swf is embedded in. Flash may not give you the opportunity to say where to save the skin but you can tell it where to get it, either in the component inspector or with actionscript, which trumps the inspector. So you just move the skin to the directory you want.

import fl.video.*;

myFLV.source = "vids/vid.mov";

myFLV.skin = "vids/skin.swf";
