SWF doesn't play with alpha channel
on Feb 22, 2010 at 9:15:58 pm

I am trying to play a 500Kb FLV animation through a 12Kb SWF file on a website, while still maintaining the alpha channel. This FLV was encoded using On2 VP6 codec to maintain alpha data, and was tested by itself in After Effects with a colored background, and definitely has alpha data intact.

Once I test the SWF in Dreamweaver or Flash, it will load and play the FLV fine, but there is a white box. I think the problem is in the SWF player that plays the FLV. Is there a way to create a transparent SWF player that will play my FLV and maintain alpha channel?

If you want your swf to be transparent you have to change the value of the wmode parameter to transparent in the object and/or embed tags:

param name="wmode" value="transparent"
