Rookie needs info about banners
on Feb 15, 2010 at 7:03:50 pm

I'm an After Effects guy making a banner for the first time.
I output from AE as an flv file. Do I need to do anything to make it loop forever when it placed on a page or will it do it automatically? Also, do I need to embed the URL it takes you to or does the web guy do that when he posts it? If I need to do it, how? Sorry for such basic questions but I'm supposed to do this right away.

If you want your flv to loop, embed it as a movieclip. To have someone navigate to a URL, name your movieclip instance something like "banner_mc" and put the following code on the frame (if you're using Actionscript 3.0):

banner_mc.buttonMode=true; // makes the little hand show up when people hover over the movieclip

banner_mc.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoURL);

function gotoURL(e:MouseEvent):void{
navigateToURL(new URLRequest("http://www.website.com"), "_blank");
}
