Can't Make Button Work in .gif

This may not be a Flash question, per se - but there's not a Fireworks forum.

I have created a banner ad in Fireworks CS3, exported to .gif format (both static and animated versions) -- the layers and frames all appear to be working just fine, except for a Button I tried to embed leading out to the website advertised in the banner. Is it not possible to export a working (linked to destination URL) banner from Fireworks? The supported ad formats are .gif, jpeg or .png -- not .swf -- so my options are narrow.

I added a Button Symbol, dialed it down to 0% opacity, assigned the destination URL and exported it across frames. But when I open the .gif (or .png, for that matter) in Firefox, no link is active. What am I missing? Need to resolve urgently -- any advice appreciated!

The gif file format does not include support for links: it's an image format. If you want a link from a web page, you'll either need to export as swf (if Fireworks supports that) This would be the easy option, and would mean the link travels with the banner. Or try using javascript in the host web page, with a series of individual images instead of an animated gif. These might help.$1c7e3e00$13d9f69b@Vaikunt...
