Shape tween + masking - beginner
on Sep 16, 2009 at 8:40:06 am

Hi everybody, I'm trying to make effect as on this site:

I have problems with creating the mask layer to reveal new photo. When I make all the mask rectangles in one layer and choose Shape tweening, it creates some strange morphing thing. When I create each square in one layer and group the layers, I'm not able to use the group as a mask. Please help, I'm sure this is beginner question...

Hi, there are two ways I would tackle this. Both are fairly "old school"; I'm sure there's some jazzy new way to actionscript it, but here's my clunky traditionalist solution ... :)

The first would be to use shape hints.

The other would be to put each of the squares as a separate mask layer, with each one masking another instance of the same picture.

It's a little tedious and mechanical, but as you're using the same picture over and over, it shouldn't blow out your file size.
