Very Interesting Flash site...How'd they do it??
on Aug 27, 2009 at 1:00:15 am

I came across this website and would like to create a site similar to it. In particular how each page moves from side to side. Also, notice how if your on the first page and click on the link for the last page it scrolls across all the pages between them.

This is a bit out of my league as far as flash goes...anyone have or know of a tutorial out there on how to create something like this?

Hi Nick,

That's not actually flash at all. It's html and javascript to make it scroll sideways. If you view the source (right-click the page --> view source) you can see all the javascript import statements at the top of the page. You might have better luck finding a tutorial if you ask the Dreamweaver forum, as my javascript is lousy.

Nick -

It can be done in Flash, and there's a tutorial on that walks you throught the process. I believe it's called "Creating your first website using Flash CS4". I think you'll need to subscribe to get at it, but you can do a short term subscription for 25 bucks a month, and it's amazing what you can pick up with a months time - there's a depth of information there that's incredible!

I had no experience in Flash CS4 when I started the tutorials (by the way, if you've bought the CS4 bundle, one of the perks is a free month's subscription for EACH of the CS4 products in the bundle) - I'm currently on my third free sub at Lynda).

I've created a website (work in progress - as well as an interactive, menu based DVD for my company, just from working my way through the Lynda tutes. There are widely varying opinions on using a Flash only website, including the problem with searching for text and linking, but I was able to get a site up and running in a bit under a week (granted, it's a simple site, but it has playable Flash videos on it, and does the trick for now, giving us a presence on the web).
