Gradient masks in nested movieclips
on Jul 7, 2009 at 2:02:05 am

Can anyone tell me how (or if it's even possible) to use a gradient mask in a nested movieclip?

I know the gradient mask drill for Actionscript 3. It works fine if I do it on the main timeline.

But my animation requires the gradient mask and it's masked object to be nested in a movieclip.

Any ideas?

I don't know if this will work for your project, but when I encountered the same problem, I put the mask script in the main timeline and called the objects as children of the nested movie clip.

I.e., rather than put:

object1.mask = mask1;
object1.cacheAsBitmap = true;
mask1.cacheAsBitmap = true;

in the timeline of nested_mc, I put:

nested_mc.object1.mask = nested_mc.mask1;
nested_mc.object1.cacheAsBitmap = true;
nested_mc.mask1.cacheAsBitmap = true;

in the main timeline. Hope this helps!
