Password to another page - - help
on May 20, 2009 at 12:42:53 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for some information and i've been trying to google it, but don't know how to really look it up. What I am trying to do is create a flash website. It is a photography website. The problem I am having is I am wanting to know how to create the password part. The password area would be for the clients to login and then with their password, be directed to their own pictures to look at. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Blake

here's the way i do it:

1) have a dynamic text field, give it an instance name of " failedText" this will display if the password is wrong
2) have an input text field with an instance name of " pword" this will be where they type the password
3) have a submit button with instance name "submit"
4)have a 'page' with an associated frame label("client1page" in this example) for each private client section you want.

here's the code:

stop();

submit.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,submitclick);

failedText.background=false;
failedText.border=false;

var mypword:String;

function submitclick(event:MouseEvent):void{
mypword=pword.text;
if(mypword =="CORRECTpassword"){
gotoAndStop("client1page");
}else{failed.text="Please enter valid password";
}
}

add as many " if .... else" statements as you have passwords.

hoope this helps, let us know how it goes !

Thats a very un secure way of doing it how important is security? Sas Jocabs wrote about this in XML and EX4 book.

Security isn't really too big. I mean it's just wedding photos. I won't have like billing information or social security numbers or anything on it.

i didn't think so, that's why i passed on this technique that i have used. clients feel good, because no one can see their pictures and it makes you look to be more professional.

justin is right, though, in that it is not high security , but it IS a simple way to achieve the goals for these 'low-security' situations.

let me know if you have any other questions about it
