AS3- external fl to layer
on Apr 21, 2009 at 9:46:00 am

Hello!
Here is my problem:
I have created a drop-down menu in as3 that contains different .flv's loaded from a site.
I can load any flv video without a problem.
Once one movie has loaded and is playing, I can't access the drop down menu. I think the problem is that the movies load on top of the layers within flash, and hiding everything that is under.
It should be possible to load a movie to a particular layer, the question is how. Should I use a var for a particular layer?
Or is there a smarter way to do this?

Thanks for your help, very much appreciated!

Here is my placement code:
//AS3 for loadmovies

var Xpos:Number = 189;
var Ypos:Number = 25;
var swf:MovieClip;
var loader:Loader = new Loader();

loader.x = Xpos;
loader.y = Ypos;
addChild(loader);

use addChildAt(loader,0); instead of just addChild(loader);

addChild places that child at the top most 'z-order' ( stacking order - analagous to the top layer, if you created it on the stage) of the Display List ( how objects are viewed in the exported SWF)

using addChildAt(0) tells it where to be on the z-order of the display list. 0 is the lowest. depending on your other objects in your file, of course, this should place it below your drop down. if not, change the number and see what happens.
