Can't produce a high quality flv

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to convert a good quality wmv to flv, but the processing is screwing up the quality. I've been using Flash Video Encoder and tried both On2 VP6 and Sorenson Spark, but with no luck, the quality remains really blocky.
I've seen DVD quality video in Flash, but don't seem able to reproduce it. What am I doing wrong?

(Due to the unusual size and multiple videos, I've been outputting from AE as a 768(width) by 1024(height) wmv. Yes, that is the right way round for this project. The final version will be running off a hard drive.

maybe the video size (pixels) is just too big to get good results at your settings.

There is a FLV bitrate calculator here:

You input the video size, length, and whether the content is fast action or minimal movement.. etc, and it calculates an optimum bitrate, which you can then set in adobe flv encoder.

It may be that you just need to turn the bitrate up loads, as you are playing from hard drive and I think adobe flv encoder is set to assume you are encoding FLV for web playback.. where you are looking at video sizes more like 300x400 at 500kbps to have nice looking vid without blockiness.
