Using a wildcard (*) in .flv loading
on Jan 23, 2009 at 3:28:37 pm

Hello all,

Is it possible to create an "intelligent" flash .swf file that will load any .flv file place in a certain folder? What I am trying to do is create a Flash movie that will load any .swf file I drop into a certain folder. I don't know action script at all really, but I was hoping I could use a wildcard like * to make this happen.

Does anyone have any ideas? Or is this even possible? If it is not, please let me know. You'll save me a lot of frustration.

Thanks!

CMF

RN = Math.ceil(Math.random()*5);
name = "flvname"+RN+".swf";
_root.your_mc.loadMovie("flv/"+name,host);

**Add a number to the end of the name
use the same name for the files but a different number
load the random script, point to the folder and wellah!

use this actionscript for flv's or swf's

Hey Daniel,

Okay, I've been at it for two hours or so now. What am I doing wrong? Here's what I've got:

RN=Math.ceil(Math.random()*5);
name="webtv"+RN+".swf";
_root.videoPlayer.loadMovie("webtv/"+name);

The compiler is telling me that "RN" and "_root" are undefined properties.

My files are going to be named "webtv012609.swf", "webtv012709.swf",etc. The file they are currently in is the local drive "h:/webtv/".

Any help?

Thanks!

I now suspect that my use of ActionScript 3.0 may have something to do with the lack of compatability here. I am now getting the message that "loadMovie" is not supported...

Here's the code I have at this point:

var RN=Math.ceil(Math.random()*5);
name="webtv"+RN+".swf";
this.loadMovie("vbswebtv/"+name);
