Button functionality during timeline animation...
on Dec 10, 2008 at 5:22:57 pm

Hey hey!

So, I must be doing something wrong - I've designed a little intro for a site on the timeline with motion and shape tweens. It lasts approx. 5 seconds and I'm trying to create a 'skip intro' button. When I create and script it, nothing happens. I'm wondering if it's because the timeline is busy playing and I'm scripting the function wrong. Or should I have simply designed the intro outside the timeline and imported it as a separate file?

Please help!!

Thanks always,

Mike Land

It should in theory move the playhead once you click it, but it could be the code or naming (etc) -- code and scenes are sometimes tricky because you have to be particular about what you use. When a SWF compiles, scenes disappear and you have one big long timeline -- you have to make sure your code accommodates for this.

Anyway, I have a blog entry that explains how to code buttons for jumping to scenes, within a scene, and so on: http://flashthusiast.com/2008/07/31/creating-buttons-that-link-to-different...

Hope that helps,
Jen.

Ah! I'm such a doofus! I was scripting for the frames AFTER the animation, so the button only became functional after it disappeared with the intro.

Your blog was helpful for other reasons though, so thanks much!
