Flash buttons take to different sides
on Dec 5, 2008 at 11:05:56 pm

Hey!
My problem is here: http://ajuvaba.planet.ee/extras/poetryslam.swf
When I press buttons, then it starts animation. What I must do, when I wanna that after the animasion the button takes me to HTML side.
For example: when I push Home button, first it plays the animation and then takes me to HOME html page. And when I push media button, it takes me to MEDIA html side. It must be also in same window.
I tried different ways and usually flash wanna open all the link on same time :S

Thanks for reading!
Any ideas?
Best,
Sander

The easiest way would be to add the getURL at the end of your animation instead of on the button, and set the target to self so it opens in the same/current window.

No, you're putting it at the end of the animation.

Yes, I tried it first. But then Flash opens all the links same time. I wanna, when I push media button, then it takes me to MEDIA html page or when I push HOME button, then I takes me to HOME html page. When I but the links to the end of animation, then it opens all the links on the same time :S

OK, I'm probably thinking the FLA is set up a different way. I was thinking you had something like a main page with buttons on it. When you click one of those buttons it plays an animation and *then* you want it to open an HTML page. Is that right? How have you structured the animation in your FLA? That sounds like it's the issue, that all the code opening the HTML is on the same timeline/clip/place. It needs to be attached to each animation (so it's executed only if the playhead reaches that spot). Your buttons that play the animation only contain code that starts each animation clip.

Its my timeline.
Thats right when I click one of those buttons it plays an animation and *then* I want it to open an HTML page.
What code do I need to use then, to start first *all* the animations and the open certain link?

Thank you!

Ah, so it looks like it's playing the same animation? - that'd be a little tricker because you'd need to change your code (need to detect which button was clicked and then open the correct URL based on that). So you could write some code that did that. Or you could make a "less well structured document" that sort of does it the manual way - and insert your animation into a movie clip, put one for each button on the Stage and play them based on which button was clicked and call the getURL at the end like mentioned earlier.

Yes! :)
But do you have idea what kind of code it can be? I wanna first try the first option. And when it do not work then go for the movie clip.
