Trying to animate words in AS 3
on Sep 8, 2008 at 4:11:16 pm

I am trying to create what I believe to be a simple animation where I have a word that starts out with a wide letter spacing and kerns in to a normal letter spacing as a drop shadow moves into place. I can set up and animate the drop shadow but when I try to get the letter spacing to change the space stays the same until the next keyframe where it pops to the new letter spacing. I have been trying to figure out how to set this up using ActionScript 3.0 but so far have been unsuccessful. Any help would be appreciated.

The easiest way would be to install Tweener. A custom Tween class for AS2 and AS3. Tweener has a few special tweens. One of them is the "_text_letterSpacing" property. That should do the trick.

Kind regards,
Pieter

General notice: from now on, I would like to ask everyone to put [AS2] or [AS3] (corresponding to the version of actionscript you are using on your project) in front of their post titles when the question is actionscript related! Please help us help you faster. Thank you.
