Can AS2 and AS3 work together?
on Aug 4, 2008 at 9:22:48 am

I'm more comfortable in AS2.0, but I was able to make a really cool AS3.0 swf with a tutorial. I'm wondering if the majority of my site is using AS2.0, if I can externaly load the swf using AS3.0 if it's all in Flash 9?

Thanks,
Clint

No you cannot load AS3 swf file in AS2 swf files because AS2 swf files use AVM1 while AS3 swf use AVM2.

Does this also mean that we should not have AS2 swf files and separate AS3 swf files on the same site or page?

Thanks in advance!

Sher wasn't entirely correct. There is something called the SWFBridge, this allows AS2 files to communicate with AS3 files.

Anyhow, to answer your question, no, that's definitely not a problem. Each SWF file operates on his own. In a different instance of the Flash Player.

Kind regards,
Pieter

General notice: from now on, I would like to ask everyone to put [AS2] or [AS3] (corresponding to the version of actionscript you are using on your project) in front of their post titles when the question is actionscript related! Please help us help you faster. Thank you.
