Duplicating symbol and offset
on Jun 25, 2008 at 1:28:35 am

Hi,

I was trying to follow along an animation tutorial made by cartoonsmart: http://www.cartoonsmart.com/ninja.html

When the guy duplicates his mc symbols, the duplicate and the original align perfectly so that when he enters symbol mode and edits in place original and duplicates keep the same shape this allowed him to do some frame by frame. When i tried on my end the duplicate always offsets from original (select mc on canva and hit ctrl+d).

I sent him an email, he doesnt feel like nowing what to do neither.

I recently tried on a friend's computer (flash CS3 on vista while mine is flash 8 on xp sp2) same thing. So my guess is probabably because cartoonsmart's tutorials are made on Mac, there is a difference in factory settings in flash betwen Mac and Win?

Anyone knows how i can tweak the settings in flash so that when i duplicate a symbol by crtl+d the duplicate and original align without offset? Or any idea besides crtl+d?

Thanks for your help.

Wow, thats a pickle, and not in a good way.
OK, my work around, and btw I am on a Mac using CS3 and still get the offset.

The offset I get is 10 pixels off X and Y coordinates… so:

1. Select Symbol

2. Duplicate Symbol, Command - D/ Control - D

3. Hold down your Shift key, then press the up arrow once, and left arrow once
(pressing arrow keys alone moves items in 1 pixel increments, holding down Shift and arrow keys moves items in 10 pixel increments

This should align the original and the duplicate

Hope this helps
