Flash actionscript 3 website
on Jun 13, 2008 at 4:59:03 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm making a website in flash CS3 using actionscript 3.
The problem is that I have one section that plays video using the flv player
and frame labels to jump to different flv players on the timeline.
This works when I "Test Scene".
But when I "Test Move" to view the whole site and see if
everything works my video buttons for the flv players don't work.
The script I have is:

stop();

import flash.events.MouseEvent;

wes_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,wesClick);
function wesClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndStop("wes");
}

jaco_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,jacoClick);
function wesClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndStop("jaco");
}

Any help you guys can give me is greatly appeciated.
I've been working on this simple problem ALL WEEK.
And can't figure it our at any other website.

Thank you.

Your function names are the same.

function wesClick should be function jacoClick

Thanks, I did see that also.
Made the change, but the problem is still there.

Are you using Scenes? And calling frames across scenes...?

Kind regards,
Pieter

I'm kinda new to actionscript 3.
I tried the Window-Other Panels-Scene
and all it says is "Scene 1"
I don't know if I'm jumping across scenes or not.

Here is a link to my fla file:

The problem is with the "Shows" layer.
Maybe this will help you understand what I'm doing wrong.

Inside video_box_mc is a Graphic called Tween5, click it (in both the first and 5th frame) and change it's type in the Properties panel to 'Movieclip'. That should do it.

Kind regards,
Pieter

You're welcome and don't worry about it. Very nice website and animations by the way.

Hope you'll have a great weekend too.
Also, perhaps a little explanation of what went wrong. As I'm sure you know, flash has three types of symbols, the Graphic, the Movieclip and the Button.

The big difference between the graphic and the movieclip being that a movieclip, in essence, is a a little .swf on its own and has it's own timeline and everything. The graphic, although it has a 'timeline' you can't actually do anything with this timeline, like attach actionscript to it. Then why use a graphic...? It's slightly lighter than a movieclip and thus doesn't slow down your project as much, but taking into account current processor speeds, it's safer to just always go with a Movieclip. Except maybe for very simple tweens.

Kind regards,
Pieter
