I've heard the rumors that Flash 9 will now support the h.264 codec. Has any one used this new flash codec yet and if so is it in a .flv container?

yes :) as of release 9.0.115.0

You can load and play .mp4,.m4v,.m4a,.mov and .3gp, along with, ofcourse, FLV all using the NetStream API.
