Tween a rock and hard place

I'm sure it's simple but it's really screwing me up.
Trying to make a simple loader. In fact the type says LOADER and it is supposed to expand its kerning in and out --to simulate loading.

Typed the word with dynamic text, made it a movie symbol-then double clicked to enter the movie. Created a new keyframe at frame 20. Then I expand the kirn on the type. Scrubing thru this gives me the type in normal kirn in frame 1 thru 19, then at 20 it jumps to kirned out type. So..time to motion tween.

I select frame 1 and shift select frame 20(thereby selecting everyting inbetween. Then select motion tween in the properties inspector. I am given a little error icon in the properties inspector next to the "edit..." button. It says..."motion tweening will not occur on layers with ungroped shapes or on layers with more than one group or symbol.

This is driving my crazy. Can anybody help a newbee.

This could be done in code, but I don't think thats what your looking for. So simple solution would be to do this

1. make some text of frame 1
2. create a keyframe on frame 20 (same text)
3. expand kerning on frame 20
4. goto frame one and select the text
5. choose Modify --> Break Apart
you should have characters now
6. choose Modify --> Break Apart
you should have outlines now
7. Goto frame 20
8. choose Modify --> Break Apart (2x)
you should have outlines now
9. return to frame 1,right click on the keyframe, and create a new shape tween.

I think thats what your looking for. Sometime the shape tween can have some crazy results, but it can always be tweaked. Aside from this you could go with code from something like fuse Kit if you wanna venture into actionscript.

Hi,
How about the type, should it be dynamic or static? And I should first modify>convert to symbol. Correct? Convert to a moive clip or graphic?

Oh...it's a shape tween and NOT a motion tween?
I see that.But..should I have converted it to a symbol first?

Actually its a shape. The text is outlined in vector form on frame 1 and 20. Shape tweens works with vector shapes.

You can contain these in a graphic or a movie clip.

So it would look like this

main timeline --> Movie Clip --> shape tween from 1 - 20

Sadly you cannot motion tween kerning, so the only option from the timeline is to shape tween two vector's

hope this helps
