How did they do this?
on Jan 20, 2008 at 12:40:30 pm

Hey everyone,

I was wondering how to do something like the flash banner on the IBM website, at http://www.IBM.com?

I've been using Flash for animation over the past 6 months so I'm not a complete novice. I know how to make the buttons by using a movie instance on the over state. What I dont know much about is the action script involved in making the banner change when the curser is on the over state.

My first idea was that each banner is a movie on a different frame. Then you would use action script to jump to the related frame when the curser was on the over state of the button.

Any help would be much appreiciated.
Thanks everyone.

Nick, you're on the right path.. the changing of the banners contents is relying on the onRollOver state.. whether ibm is instructing their swf to go to another frame, or just calling actionscript to load movies is hard to tell.. but this is definitely doable by having your different animations on their own frame, and onRollOver on the buttons below, gotoAndPlay, or gotoAndStop the respective frame.. hope this helps
