flash cs3 rollover delay on mouse event
on Jan 15, 2008 at 3:35:19 pm

I would appreciate anyone's help on this!

I have actions, buttons and a mc (that contains images on labeled keyframes), each on their own layer on my main timeline in Flash. The problem is I have a 2-4 sec delay on the rollover effect of each mouse event (rollover and/or click)!

Here's my script:

function testPage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("test");
}
function savePage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("save");
}
function helpPage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("help");
}
function startPage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("start");
}
function lifePage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("life");
}
function jobPage(event:MouseEvent):void
{
NECC_mc.gotoAndStop("job");
}
btn_test.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, testPage);
btn_save.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, savePage);
btn_help.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, helpPage);
btn_start.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startPage);
btn_life.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, lifePage);
btn_job.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, jobPage);

Thanks,

Betsy

I recreated this sample using your code based on your description and I did not have any delay. It might have something to do with the way you set up your animation within the MC?

Are you using MC filters to create your rollover effects? I have noticed that using multiple MC filters on text will slow my SWF files down... have you tried removing the "stop()" functions and just letting the MC repeat to see if you get delayed playback?

Maybe more info on the construction of your animation might help?

Thank you for the time and thought you've already put in helping me solve this! So generous!

I'm not using any filters on my mc to create rollovers. the mc consists of six images on a timeline, each with a corresponding label and stop action on corresponding keyframes. The text buttons are on the main timeline and the rollover graphic and image are in the NECC_mc. Ideally, on mouseover or rollover, the color bar behind the text and images would change!

I posted the swf at http://www.necc.mass.edu/test/swf_test.php.

Thanks,

Betsy

very useful feedback from another Flash affectionato: i hadn't checked the fps with this file! it was .2. I changed it to 31 and it works!

Thanks,

Betsy
