Flash /Air and 3d animations ...

Hello all,
I have a client who is building an application for client side using Flash / Flex and Air. He wants me to design a slick GUI which may need to be 3D animated position and rotation on 3 axes. They are icons which could range from 1 (doubtful) to 50 or so. Since the application he is delivering will be run client side, am I correct in assuming that I can just animated this the

Though you could fake it with renders, depending on if you truly need interactive 3d animation, or if you can get away with blurring animations to give the illusion of motion in 3d. Rendering out 50 things with 3d animations could be very bulky...

Shock wave is another option if you know your lingo, director has a strong 3d engine. The only problem would be that the shockwave player is on far less computers. If this application is targeted you can just require it...
