external PDF files
on May 20, 2007 at 9:28:44 am

i'm trying to create abutton, that when pressed will open up an external .pdf file located in the same folder as the swf movie..

I tried using
on(release) {
getURL ("filename.pdf")

but it only opens up my web browser and google... basically it only opens the internet not the filepath...

is there any codes that can specify the swf movie file path (like the "moviepath" code in macromedia director)?

Where a pdf opens is up to the users browser; Mac and Windows behave a little differently due to user preferences, however your code is what I have always used and it still does in Flash 8.

Perhaps you have "Access local files only" checked while you are testing?

owww, where can I find this 'access local files only'?

And yes, I tried in different computers, and seems to be getting different responses. It worked in a Mac, but in one PC it opens up photoshop (this may be because of the pc doesn't have acrobat reader).

So i guess the code is right but it depends on the compputer I guess...
