player publishing setting
on Nov 16, 2006 at 8:06:32 pm

I am relatively new to flash, and have a question about flash player settings in the publish options.

It seems considering there are more people with flash player 6 than say 7 or 8, you would almost always want to publish in 6. What benefit is there to publish any higher than 6? I'd imagine much of the differences involve flv's?

Does anyone know of a good reference table that outlines all the options offered in different flash players?

Each version of the Flash player supports new features, and you would need to publish for that player version if you wanted to use those features. I don't remember the major features added between V6 and 7, but V8 added a number of usefull features like dynamically loading progressive JPG and PNG files, as well as the filters (I don't know how I lived without filters...) and many other things (among which is the ON2 FLV codec which allows alpha masking for chromakey work).

I'm filling a need. Without me there would be no bad examples.
