Delay playback of Prgressive .FLV
on Sep 18, 2006 at 6:41:39 pm

I am a newbie and apologize if this question is obvious.

I have set up a site with external progressive download flv movies. They look good, and work well, except they start playing before the buffer is far enough to play. The result is a choppy video for 2 seconds, then wait for the download to catch up. I have noticed this with many sites I view in general and have always thought it to be a problem.

Is there a way to not have the progressive flv play right away. Can you set it to wait till, for example, a certain percentage of the file has been cached?

Or is the only to this problem to lower the data rate per second?

Thanks in advance for any help,

If you're using the NetStream method of playing the video just set the buffer time for the NetStream to a greater length (IIRC the default is .1 second which is hardly anything). Try this to set the buffer to 10 seconds (assuming "ns" is the name of your NetStream Object):

If you're using the FLV Playback Component, it would be very similar, using the instance name of your component:

my_FLVPlybk.bufferTime = 8;

I'm filling a need. Without me there would be no bad examples.
