"NO" Preloading
on Aug 29, 2006 at 4:05:28 pm

i have a preloader on frame 1 of my Flash MX timeline (I've pasted the code below)
I have one large element that I do NOT want to preload. This one element brings the .swf from 1mg to 2 mgs (it's audio).
This element is sort of buried on the page so i'd rather have it load when it's clicked on.

I'm not using different scenes.
i'm using goto "(frame number)" to navigate around.

How can I set MX to NOT preload one single element?

preload code:
bytes_loaded = Math.round(this.getBytesLoaded());
bytes_total = Math.round(this.getBytesTotal());
getPercent = bytes_loaded/bytes_total;
this.loadBar._width = getPercent*311;
this.loadText = Math.round(getPercent*100)+"%";
if (bytes_loaded == bytes_total) {

If you don't want Flash to load the element until it's needed, you will have to remove it from your FLA file and work on dynamically loading it when it is called for. If it's a sound file that should be very simple. Look in the help files for the Sound Class to see how to stream an MP3 file dynamically at runtime.

I'm filling a need. Without me there would be no bad examples.
