I have a flash video player working (embedded video with screens showing on cue -- working well .... NOW, I try and make it work online and no good... the question is.. what has to be changed in the working (locally running) -- I assumed I could just make changes in the "inspector" but its not working.. output box when I test movie (with remote URLs) said could not connect...output box says:
Error opening URL "http://www.webcasting.com/dovermedia/ArticExternalAll.flv"
1005: Invalid xml: URL: "http://www.webcasting.com/dovermedia/nowwhat1.swf" No root node found; if file is an flv it must have .flv extension
Should i have done something different in the encoding process? What do I need to have on the WEB server.. SWF or FLA... any help out there?
I've never been able to test flv's locally. They always have to be up on the server in the folder I'm going to pull them from. Contrary to what the other gentlemen said, they don't have to be in the same folder as the swf, so long as you made the right path to the folder that holds them when you export your swf. For me the process basically works like this.
1. encode the flv and put it in a designated folder on my server
2. Make (or use existing) video player with controls in flash.
3. Make sure player points to flv in folder on my server.
4. Export .swf
5. Put swf into my webpage.
6. Upload .swf and .html
7. Watch video work
If you want some great training info on flvs you should check out the video tutorials by Lee Brimelow on Creative Cow. You can watch them here.
