flash 6

Hi there.

I have been asked to place a 15minute long clip on a website, so it progressively downloads for all users with a flash6 player and above.

(The client doesn't like the idea of it's "visitors" being prompted to update player)

I have Flash Pro8, and i thought i would do it as sorenson spark, and have a netstream object referencing the flv from the server.

When i load page, flashplayer 6 cant play clip.

I published to flash 6 & actionscript 2.

I used following code

var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);

hope someone can help

The NetStream method of playing FLV files was only supported in Flash Player 6 when using Flash Communication Server (now Flash Media Server). So you're client is either going to need to be prepared for long download since you would need to import the full video into the SWF to play it ( importing the video into the SWF will not allow progressive download, it would need to fully donwload before the video would play...), allow the user's to be prompted to upgrade their Flash Player, pony up the $4k or so to install and set up Flash Media Server, or find an online provider that offers FMS.

Of those options, I would think the prompt to upgrade would be the best.

I'm filling a need. Without me there would be no bad examples.

Thanks for your insights.
Much appreciated.

Yes, prompt isn't that annoying, especially as an express install.
