Flash 8 FLV getURL at end of playing
on May 26, 2006 at 8:14:11 am

Hi guys

Promise I've searched the forums, but didn't find an answer. I've been asked to create a video splash screen which at the end of playing goes to a new page. I've used the Flash componenets to play the video and can see that there's a way to add events. I just can't see how.

If your video splash screen is an FLV file, it depends on how you're playing your video.

If you're using the FLV Playback Component, the code would be something like this, assuming your FLV component has an instance name of "myFLV":

import mx.video.*;
var vidListen:Object = new Object();
vidListen.complete = function() {
//Do whatever you need to to when the video ends;
};
myFLV.addEventListener("complete", vidListen);

If you're using the netStream method, it would be like this:

ns.onStatus = function (info) {
if (info.code == "NetStream.Play.Stop") {
//Do whatever you need to to when the video ends;
}
}

Or, if you encode a cue into your flv (by choosing Import Video then clicking the Advanced Settings button. Click the Cue tab. Scrub until the end of the video then click the + sign. Name the cue something like "Finish") you can use a component and cut down the code needed.

After the completion of above, name your FLV component that will be on the stage and use this ActionScript on the Main timeline:

import mx.video.FLVPlayback;

InstanceNameOfVideo.cuePoint = function(){
getURL("http://www.wherever.com");
}

Thanks guys, because I created the FLV in After effects, I couldn't see how to encode a cue point in it. The reason I went the AE route was after tests exporting out that way produced the smallest file with the best result. I had to adapt the code mentioned, but got it working and am very pleased with the result. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
