Flash PC .fla file to Mac

Hello Everyone,

I ran into a problem opening up a .fla Flash file on my mac I have Flash MX. I think that the problem might be that the file was created on a PC.

When I try to open the file it says file failed to open (thanks for the info

I thought Flash was platform independent, but I'm not sure.

Is there a way I can open this file on my Mac?

Thanx

You should be able to open PC versions on the Mac, and vice versa. I do it quite frequently. The only potential hurdle is Fonts, since PC and Mac fonts are rather different there is little likelyhood that anything other than the basics (Arial, Times New Roman, etc...) will not give you a dialog asking for substitutions. Is it possible that the PC version is MX2004 and the Mac version is just MX. A lot of people get that confused, but MX2004 is a full version upgrade from MX and not backwards compatable unless saved that way from MX2004.

The person who made the file is using Flash 8 Professional (PC). We have Flash MX2004 and I also believe Flash MX.

What is the Mac compatible version for Flash 8 Pro (PC)?

Thanks a mill...

Well if it was created in Flash 8 on PC, You would need Flash 8 on the Mac to open it. It is possible in Flash 8 (PC or Mac) to save it down to Flash MX2004 (but not to Flash MX) as long as they are not using any actionscript code that is new in Flash 8 or new Flash 8 features like filters and some of the new componenets.
