Alternatives to 'getUrl'?
on May 8, 2006 at 11:23:42 am

Hello all,
I'm trying to load a swf navbar into a html frame.
Using the 'getUrl' method obviously swaps the contents of the frame for the contents of the swf. What I need is to maintain the background of the frame and have the swf navbar appear with a transparent background.
If I was just inserting the navbar I could use the wmode="transparent" method but this isn't valid when using getUrl, which completely swaps the frame information.
Anybodys 2 cents on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you want to leave the contents of the frame (are we still ok with frames) the same, and have an swf navbar appear, triggered from another swf?

Approaches might include - a sep page with same contents + navbar, called with getURL in normal way ...

Some way to trigger a Javascript function, which could

set swf visibility property from hidden to visible, or display from none to inherit, depending on whether you want to leave a hole in the page for the navbar to fill ...

or
swap out another image and replace it with the navbar

Doesn't fscommand attempt to provide this actionscript-to-browser javasript functionality ,,,?
