FLV with broadband and dialup.

Here is a challenge for anyone interested... :)

Is there any way to have ActionScript detect the speed of the user's internect connection, then choose between one of two different FLVs to play?

I'd like to make two different versions of the FLV -- one high quality version for broadband users, one low quality one for anyone who might be using a dialup connection.

I am using the following method to play FLVs...

var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
nc.connect(null);

var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);

Thanks :)

Here's an article that explains how to do it, as well as some of the pitfalls involved in the process:

The optimal way to do that is using Flash Media Server, which has built-in bandwidth detection. But it aint cheap!

Thank you for the link!

I have studied the article, and will experiment with the ActionScript. :)
