can't make a MovieClip a link!
on Jan 24, 2006 at 3:35:23 pm

I'm new to Flash. I bought a Flash template from Template Monster. I am modifying it for my needs. There are some Movie Clips that look like buttons. when you mouse over it, the arrow bounces around. I want to make that into a link. I am familiar with the getURL action, and I can apply that to Buttons, but I can't seem to make it work on MovieClips. When I apply it to a movie clip, ANY click anywhere on the page will open up the link I am trying to reference. Of course, I only want the user to go to the link if they click on a specific area, not anywhere on the page.

Please help me out!

I am using Flash Professional 8 on a Mac.

THANKS!

in the timeline where your movieclip is placed
type this code.

your_mc.onRelease = function() {

getURL("http://www.yoursite.com/your_page.html");

}

where the your_mc is the name of the movieclip instance,
which you want to use as a button.
