What does this mean in laymans terms

What does this mean in everyday english -

**Error** Symbol=contents f p 4, layer=Layer 11, frame=1:Line 1: Statement must appear within on handler
keith.onRelease = function(){

Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1

This means that you selected a symbol namde contents
and then in action panel you attached the code:

keith.onRelease = function(){...

that's why it is producing error.

The correct way would be to attach this code with a
keyframe a keyframe instead of contents symbol and
in the action panel type the code as.

keith.onRelease = function(){...
