How long should an editors reel be?
I've edited 4 feature length movies. Three have world wide distribution. All are micro-budget.
The two I've done for a film maker friend are awful. There's no getting around how bad everything about them is. But, the editing did get them distribution. I still wouldn't use them on my reel.
The two movies I wrote/directed/edited etc have great acting, however the footage is questionable as far as cinematography goes.
I want to edit features that are character driven. While anyone with a computer can edit shots together, it's difficult (IMO) to put a scene together that tells a story in the most dramatic fashion. That's what I think (and I've been told) I do.
I put together a reel that I think shows different elements to storytelling and creating a scene. But, it's 8 minutes long. Which is WAY TOO LONG, especially being a reel.
This is just a rough cut, not the finished product.
Any suggestions on how to cut it down to a viewable length, yet containing the scene structure that shows drama?
