Fair use copyright on material in showreels
on Jan 24, 2013 at 10:29:14 am

Hello guys!

I'm going to be creating a showreel of all the projects I have worked on for the past few years and will be displaying only work that I have had the chance to work on. I however have a query about the material I use. One of the pieces of work I did was through the studio I work for and the client has stressed that only the company is allowed to show the work on their site...however does anyone know if the same thing would apply to me adding a few extracts of the animated work into my showreel? Would that not fall under a fair usage law as it won't be for commercial use and only used non-commercially to promote myself online?

Cheers!
Oliver

I'm having the same kind of problem! I used clips of my work that is created at a previous studio in my showreel, few months later I was issued a warning letter threatening me with legal action, even though it was only for personal use not commercial!
