Where to get ten year old news footage?
on Nov 19, 2007 at 6:16:46 pm

Hi,

I have an idea for a viral music video regarding the upcoming elections that I'd like to put together out of news clips and still photos. Now, the photos won't be hard to get a hold of, but I'd like to get some footage of congress and former president Clinton during his days in office. I'm doing this without any financial backing so I'd like to get everything that I can for free. Any ideas about where to find good resolution material for free?

Thanks,

Michael Escher

The Kennedy Library has a three minute news reel from 1963, months before JFK was shot.

It was filmed by a local San Diego station and given to the Library. The Library's policy is to have permission from the news station before releasing it.

The copyright has expired. The only copy that exist is at the Library. This reel has fallen into public domain according to copyright laws. The station doesn't think it needs a permission from their organization.

Does anyone have more information on old newsreels?
