Question, re: demo reel music
on Jan 25, 2007 at 8:22:21 pm

I'm trying to get a reel together before I go to the UK in search of work and I've been stuck in the same place for a whole week now! What music should I use?

I have some ideas, but I'd rather say nothing yet and see what considerations you guys think are most important in chosing a showreel track.

please help!

Depends on what image you're trying to project. It also depends on the clips you're using, the style of clips. Will this be a fast paced demo? Will it be dramatic? You need to decide the feel that you want. I usually like upbeat music with a good rythym that I can cut to. Everyone's different.

I would suggest that you avoid vocals as they send their own message.

cheers Greg, right now I'm looking at loads of stock music and I'm leaning towards drum n bass that isn't too in your face, and, as you mentioned; no lyrics.

I'm in motion graphics and editing, so it'll be quick and punchy (I hope)
