I see it all the time... In company montages... In pitch processes, as temp soundtracks on edits.
Is it ok to use copyrighted music on a reel.. or pitch to get awarded a job? The fair use laws are pretty vague on the matter... I mean, basically commercial use would be where they seem to draw the line at... But say I'm editing my "commercial" reel to the beat of the latest pop hit on the charts in an effort to "sell myself"... where does that fall in the line of the copyright laws?
Just curious.. I mean, it was alwasy done in Student films in college.. until you hit the festival circuit and then had to purchase festival rights... Is it the same way with reels and pitches... Free to use until you actually get awarded the job?
